AGORA - the dynamic of watching and being watched, Hortus Botanicus Vrije, Amsterdam
Featuring works by Timo Aho, Catherine E. van Olden, Lauren La Rose and Aoife McGarrigle
A group exhibition exploring the role of art and artists in defining, creating, and using public space.
The Hortus Botanicus of the Free University of Amsterdam welcome four Scottish based artists to challenge why and how public and private space are separated; how boundaries are drawn and transgressed; who is allowed to stand and speak and where. In the Botanical Garden, a public space and natural platform for the projection of voices into urban space, four artists share their experiences challenging the assumed boundaries of public space addressing important topics such as women’s rights, the environment and immigration.
The Hortus is transformed into a landscape of sculptural light elements, photographic installations, prints and performances in and outside the greenhouses.

En Route
An exhibition of work by Master of Letters graduates from Glasgow School of Art
Curated by Anne-Marie Watson
Exhibition: 17 – 20 October 2013
Preview: Fri 18 Oct 6 – 9pm
159 – 161 Camden High Street
Nearest tube Northern Line: Camden Town
En Route brings together a diverse grouping of 22 artists who have been working for the last year across four distinct pathways - painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture - on the Master of Letters course at Glasgow School of Art.
Taking place in a soon to be transformed shop unit on Camden High Street, this will be the first opportunity for them to work together post degree show, reflecting their currently evolving positions outside of the art school.
Together with curator Anne-Marie Watson they have taken part in conversations about their work and ideas both inside and outside of the groups they studied with. This process has enabled a dialogue to emerge around the material and thematic connections that run throughout their work and opened up lines of enquiry that may be common to all. Particular threads include interests in process, performance, notions of space in relation to both built and natural environments, politics, different ideas around time, links between distance and intimacy, difficulties with communication and how the body is implicated in the act of viewing.
En Route offers all the artists a further opportunity to continue these discussions and expand on their degree show in a new and non-academic context.
Generously supported by Camden Collective. Collective is a project run by Camden Town Unlimited (the BID for Camden Town) funded by Camden Council and the Mayor’s Regeneration Fund.

Cló at Artisterium VI - Tbilisi International Contemporary Art Exhibition
4-14 October, 2013
Tbilisi, Georgia
Cló and The Living Archive have worked with Artisterium since its inception in 2008, to represent Ireland (both North and South) at Artisterium, Tbilisi International Contemporary Art Exhibition, a visual art event which is the most significant international art event in the South Caucasus.
This year Cló have invited Claire Halpin to present Palimpsest, a project which involves 4 artists who have worked at Cló during 2012 and 4 invited artists to participate as Ireland’s representation at Artisterium VI in October 2013. This collaborative project invites each artist to produce an initial work, scan it and email it to the next artist to respond to by working over it, adding to it or manipulating it in some way to create a new image. These additions/ interventions may take any form eg. Artist may draw over, cut out, print over, add to, combine with other images, any medium, collage etc. The visual outcome will be eight collaborative artworks.
The theme for Artisterium VI - “Am I you?” - is about exploring how we deal with ’the other’ in our lives – other ethnic groups, other nations, other people - a collaborative project between artists is particularly relevant and is the inspiration for the curatorial concept.

Glasgow School of Art - Fine Art Practice (MLitt)
Glasgow Print Studio, First Floor Gallery
Exhibition Runs: 11th May - 23rd June 2013
Preview: Friday 10th May 6-8pm
Sumin Bak, Ary Cahyono, Omercan Cirit, Conor Cooke, Ruaridh Crighton, Mitra Forouther, Elizabeth Grant, Birthe Jorgensen, Mine Kavuncu, Jeemin Lee, Branko Lesjak, Si Ne Lee, Emil Lillo, Qiheng Liu, Sheena Mayer, Aoife McGarrigle, Steph Norwood, Joanna Peace, Marta Perovic, Iede Reckman, Michelle Semple, Suzanne Taylor, Christopher Thomas, Rongwei Zhan.
The recently established MLitt in Fine Art Practice at Glasgow School of Art is an intensive one year programme of postgraduate study in which students specialize in one of four pathways: painting; printmaking; sculpture; fine art photography. As the work on display in this exhibition suggests, this means that some of the artists embark on a focused exploration of their chosen medium, whereas others begin to challenge the very limitations conventionally associated with that medium. Thus some sculptors may explore the potential of new materials and techniques to produce three-dimensional forms, whilst others may work with photography, sound and performance. Similarly, some painters may develop an abstract language of pure pictorial form, whereas others may introduce found objects or other extraneous elements into their works. In all cases, however, the work is driven by a desire to explore new possibilities.
"The MLitt is delighted to have the opportunity to exhibit at Glasgow Print Studio. Links between the Glasgow School of Art’s postgraduate students and the extraordinary local art scene continue to energise all parties and help maintain Glasgow’s international reputation as a leading centre for contemporary art. In only a few months time this international group of young artists will complete their studies and begin the next phase of their careers as independent artists, and this exhibition provides a timely snapshot of their current position as they move towards their future."

Printmaking Residency in Belgium
In March, a group of the M.Litt students from Printmaking, Painting, Sculpture & Photography will be taking part in a 10 day residency program at the Frans Masereel Centrum in Belgium.
The Frans Masereel Centrum is a Flemish centre for Printmaking. It was established in 1972 and offers residencies for artists, designers and researchers who want to work and investigate different areas of Printmaking such as intaglio, relief printing, screenprinting and lithography. Frans Masereel Centrum is located in a rural setting near the town of Kasterlee.
This is a great opportunity for the students from different pathways to live and work together in a creative environment and it also allows some students to gain new skills outside their own specialist pathway.
The students going are:
Conor Cooke (Sculpture)
Branko Blaž Lesjak (Photography)
Sheena Mayer (Painting)
Mine Kavunci (Painting)
Michelle Semple (Printmaking)
Chris Thomas (Printmaking)

Blueprint: Photography in Printmaking
Blueprint: Photography in Printmaking
Exhibition Preview: Thurs 7th February, 6-8pm
Exhibition Runs: 8th February - 17th March 2013
First Floor Gallery
In February Trongate 103 (T103) will be the centre for an event which links exhibitions in Glasgow Print Studio, Street Level Photoworks and the T103 Foyer, with organised access to associated material in various archives and libraries across the city.
Initially conceived as an exploration of the links between alternative photographic processes and fine art photographic printmaking (printing with ink), Blueprint has grown in scope to encompass seven exhibitions, organized visits to five important archives, a programme of lectures and tie-ins with various engineering organizations.
Glasgow Print Studio will be exhibiting lens-based original images manipulated to produce prints made using traditional print-making processes in ink, featuring work by a range of Glasgow Print Studio members.
Printmaking has always been driven by technologies developed outside of fine art practice for commercial or industrial uses. Artists are attracted to innovative techniques and continue to use technologies made obsolete by industry. Methods that once were the quickest and most efficient form of reproduction, such as engraving or lithography, continue to be used by artists because of their unique aesthetic qualities. In this way, fine art printmaking has become an ever-expanding field of multi-media approaches to original printmaking, embracing new digital technologies whilst maintaining traditional techniques of woodcut, etching and screenprinting.
Artists featured in Glasgow Print Studio's contribution to Blueprint include:
Ashley Cook
Roger Farnham
Claire Forsyth
Jo Ganter
Harry Magee

The Green Man - A collaboration between artist & poet
For the month of August 2012, I revisited Cló Ceardlann na gCnoc in Donegal as artist in residence. This time, I worked collaboratively with the wonderful Irish language poet Cathal Ó Searcaigh who lives near by. Back in 2011 Cathal posted me a selection of his poems. I selected 10 of the poems which I felt worked well together and over the following months I created images which were visual responses to each poem. This concluded with me making a box set of lithographs and photo polymer etchings presenting the poems and images together. I made an edition of 8 boxes.
I've been selected to exhibit at the International Print Biennale. My work will be exhibited at the Laing Art Gallery

International Print Biennale 2011
17 September - 19 November 2011
Showcasing the best in new British and international printmaking, the 2011 International Print Biennale is an extensive programme of exhibitions, events & activities taking place across Newcastle and the North East. It follows the success of the Northern Print Biennale in 2009 which was the first major project in the UK for 20 years concentrated on the diversity of contemporary printmaking.
With the Turner Prize opening at the Baltic in October, this is an exciting time for the North East. The 2011 International Print Biennale will include exhibitions which focus on both historical and contemporary printmaking, with workshops and events for adults and children. The Biennale centres around the 2011 Print Awards which features leading international artists working in the medium of print.

Weekend Printmaking Classes coming up!
As part of this years Earagail Arts Festival, I'll be teaching weekend printmaking classes at Cló Ceardlann na gCnoc, Gortahork, Co. Donegal.
July 2011
Photo-Etching July 9/10th
Learn the basics of photo-etching and photo polymer printmaking. The process is an innovative new etching process, which allows the artist to produce photographic and digital images printed with the quality of a traditional etching. Students will learn how to expose and print photo polymer plates. This workshop will also explore photo-etching techniques. This process allows the artist to combine photo imagery with traditional etching techniques such as aquatint and hard/soft ground on the same plate. This offers the artist more freedom to alter the image with autographic marks.
Stone Lithography July16/17th
Learn the art of stone lithography. Often called the most "painterly" of the printmaking techniques, lithography is an ideal process for artists who like to work directly onto the printing surface. Using the stone as a completely
smooth surface to draw on, this technique offers a great versatility for mark making. You will experiment with different drawing materials including litho crayon, rubbing ink, tusche washes and transfers.
This course covers drawing and processing the stone in a single colour, as well as multi-colour printing. Suitable for beginners.

Salon des Refusés
Exhibition: 2nd July - 8th August
In 1863 artists protested against the Salon de Paris jury’s rejection of more than 3,000 artworks submitted to what was then greatest annual art event in the Western world. "Wishing to let the public judge the legitimacy of these complaints," Emperor Napoléon III decreed that the rejected artists could exhibit their works in an annex to the regular Salon, here the rejected works included such now-famous paintings as Édouard Manet's Le déjeuner sur l’herbe and James McNeill Whistler's Girl in White.
The tradition if the Salon des Refusés continues since then. For this exhibition GPS will showcase works by workshop members which have been refused by the jury of the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
Art & Design Visiting Lecturer Series.
Art & Design students at both the Limavady and Strand Road campuses recently enjoyed a week-long series of visiting lecturer workshops to inform and inspire their own work.' I was delighted to be invited back to my former college, North West Regional College in Derry to teach an advanced Printmaking workshop with the current Foundation Art & Design students. See link below:

2009
2009 was a productive year. I got accepted into the Summer Lithography Workshop at the Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, USA. It is the Mecca of fine art lithography. I've always wanted to go, so I was over the moon to be invited to attend the 4 week master class workshop. I was also fortunate to receive funding from the Irish Arts Council and Glasgow School of Art to go to Tamarind.
When I returned from Tamarind I spent a month as artist in residence at Cló Ceardlann na gCnoc, a printmaking workshop in the Gealtacht area of Gortahork in Donegal. During the residency, I made new work which I exhibited in my solo exhibition at Cló in October.
